I’d say we saved almost $200,000 on this project. On materials alone, we now have a building that’s 4.5 to 5 feet shorter in construction so we use that much less brick, steel and concrete.

Serious Energy has shipped more than 1.5 million QuietRock-brand panels, used in more than 40,000 multifamily and commercial construction projects.
Hyatt Place is a new kind of Hyatt for today’s relaxed lifestyle. Hyatt Place combines the Hyatt Touch® with stylish design, purposeful amenities and forward thinking technology.
The Griggs Group coordinated the design and construction of a new six-floor, 153 guest room Hyatt Place hotel with an adjacent 11,600 square foot conference center in Garland, Texas. “For the last decade, the Griggs Group has had a focus on the hospitality industry and we’re well versed in the industry’s many unique challenges,” said Greg Jones, architect and senior production designer for the Griggs Group, Inc. “Unlike typical office development, we are not just bound by city codes, regulations and state codes, we have to adhere to brand standards for different companies, and these are very brand specific. There are many people we have to please.”
Serious Energy's QuietRock products allow Architects to design quality, quiet spaces in high-traffic, unpredictable, noisy and busy environments like hotels and resorts. QuietRock exceeds building noise standards with just one layer of drywall.
Use of QuietRock products directly support sustainable zoning approaches to land use by reducing material use, thereby saving energy and reducing emissions.
Griggs Group, Inc. chose to build the Hyatt Place using QuietRock 527 after reviewing the Serious Energy library of documentation that helped them design and specify the project. The design created a documented UL rating of an hour, an STC rating of at minimum 54 and higher and saved floor plan space when compared to a traditional deep walled gypsum solution.
Compared to the usual design, QuietRock showed impressive results.
“When I was evaluating assemblies, the only other one we could use, pushed my demising wall to 8.5 inches thick. With QuietRock, we were down to 5 inches, saving 3.5 inches per wall. There are 16 demising walls on every level of the hotel, so overall the design saved us almost 300 square feet of construction costs per floor,” said Jones. “In a large development like the Hyatt Place Hotel in Garland, Texas, those savings add up. I’d say we saved almost $200,000 on this project. On materials alone, we now have a building that’s 4.5 to 5 feet shorter in construction so we use that much less brick, steel and concrete.”
Additional benefits from using QuietRock 527 for the Hyatt Place project include:
Jones concluded, “This project went so well, we are breaking ground on a new project with Serious Energy's QuietRock specified for next month.”
