Objective: Make it quiet enough so its not shut down!

Lollipop Tapas Bar and Lounge, located in New York’s Upper East Side, shares a brownstone with one store, three offices and duplex residences. Anthony Cucciniello, President of 4V Corporation, the general contractor chosen to manage the project, didn’t want to take any risks when it came to soundproofing.

“We managed everything from the banquettes to the final design - they left it all up to us,” said Cucciniello. “They told us that if it is not soundproof, they get shut down and we would be sued. That’s basically the bottom line, so we wanted to be very careful about what we put in there.” Cucciniello began his research to find the right product.

“I wasn’t comfortable with the older methods and began looking for a solution that really works. I searched online for soundproofing solutions, looked at different options and found QuietRock. I received an architectural binder that contained test reports, product information and product samples,” Cucciniello added.

“With the residences and other properties surrounding the lounge, we would take no chances. After reading the technical reports and white papers provided, I felt very comfortable that this was the best solution. We chose QuietRock 530 because we needed a low cost, 5/8”, fire-rated panel to meet NYC code.”

Located in New York City’s Upper East Side, Lollipop Tapas Bar & Lounge is an architecturally fascinating, technologically advanced hotspot.

“The owners of the lounge were thrilled. And, we haven’t heard anything from the residents and business owners in the brownstone, which is very good. In fact, when you put a $100k stereo system inside such a small place, the building really rocks. There have been NO complaints.”

Let the install begin Cucciniello and his team completely gutted the space and put in new steel, new concrete, and new mechanical and electrical. “We put one layer of QuietRock on each side of single steel studs and sprayed a soundproofing insulation in the wall. The ceiling has 2 layers of QuietRock as well.” Cucciniello’s team used rotozips and circle saws to cut it, due to the number of panels they installed.

He stated, “It used a little more labor, but was worth it – and not as much as other techniques. Beginning with the references and reports, to the way everything turned out- sometimes you have to pay a little more for the material to have a better end result. There were no callbacks, and [QuietRock] is more durable. It’s a really, really good product, one that I will continue to use, especially when we are working on residences and other projects.”

Cucciniello added, “We like to install the product since we know the end result is the customer being happy. Especially when we are doing bathroom remodels – it is the ONLY thing I use.”

Life after Lollipop: QuietRock Everywhere

In a handful of months since Lollipop’s completion in summer 2006, 4V Corporation has already used QuietRock on eight other projects. Cucciniello said, “I continue to price in QuietRock. We are currently at the completion stage of a dental office in New Rochelle, NY where we used QuietRock 525. We put in 120 panels of QuietRock. The customer is very happy because the loud medical equipment cannot be heard through the QuietRock and solid doors.”

For this $750k project, Cucciniello and his team installed one layer of QuietRock 525 on each side of single steel studs as well as on the ceiling of the doctor’s private office and consult room.

“We exclusively use QuietRock 525 on our residential bathroom projects. It just makes sense for the basic remodels,” said Cucciniello. “My customers want to be educated about the technology and the process. And once everything is complete, I look like the hero and we get TONS of referrals. It is a great product for us.”
